Boat setup

Forward Drive

A drive system with dual counter-rotating propellers mounted at the front of the drive unit, tucked safely under the hull, allowing some sterndrive-based boats to wakesurf safely.

Forward drive (such as Volvo Penta's Forward Drive) repositions the propulsion so dual props are mounted at the front of the drive and pull the boat from beneath the hull rather than pushing from aft. This tucks the propellers safely underneath the hull, far from where a wakesurfer rides.

Because the props are forward-mounted and under the boat, forward-drive models are considered safe for wakesurfing, unlike conventional sterndrives whose props sit well aft of the transom in close proximity to the rider.
