Wave
Sweet Spot
The optimal riding zone within the wave's pocket where the rider gets the most speed and push and can ride hands-free.
The sweet spot is the optimal position on a wakesurf wave—essentially the heart of the push zone within the pocket—where the rider gets the most speed and the wave does the work. Sitting in the sweet spot lets the surfer drop the rope and ride indefinitely; drifting forward or back out of it costs speed and can drop the rider off the wave.
Finding the sweet spot is the core feel of wakesurfing, and it shifts with wave shape, so riders constantly make small fore-aft adjustments by shifting weight or pumping the board.
