Boat setup
Wave shaper
An aftermarket device mounted on the transom or hull that disrupts and shapes the water flow to clean up the wash and lengthen the pocket.
A wave shaper (or wake shaper) is typically a suction-cup or bracket-mounted plate fixed to the transom that redirects water flow on one side, much like a built-in surf gate but as a retrofit. It is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to improve a boat's wake, especially when combined with ballast, because it cleans up the wash and shapes the wave. Importantly, a wave shaper shapes and cleans the wave but won't make it bigger or add push, that comes from ballast and speed.
Wave shapers let owners of boats without factory surf systems create a genuinely surfable, switchable wave.
