Wipeout

Falling off the board while riding the wave; in wakesurfing falls are usually gentle because of the low boat speed.

A wipeout is falling off the board while riding. Wakesurfing wipeouts are comparatively soft because the boat runs only around 10-13 mph, far slower than wakeboarding or waterskiing, which is a big part of why the sport is so beginner-friendly. After a wipeout the rider should signal they're OK, and the driver, alerted by the spotter, takes the engine out of gear before circling back.

The main hazard in a fall is not impact but ending up in the fall zone near the propeller and exhaust, which is why engine shutdown and PFDs matter.
