Technique
Deep-water start
The technique for getting up on a wakesurf board from a floating position, letting the boat's pull bring you upright with arms straight and knees bent.
In a deep-water start the rider floats on their back with the board's heel edge toward them and feet pressed against the deck, holding the rope handle with both hands. On a thumbs-up signal the driver eases the throttle forward; the rider keeps arms straight, knees bent, and lets the boat pull them up rather than yanking on the rope. As the board planes, the rider rotates it so the toes point toward the boat and slowly rises.
The most common beginner mistake is trying to muscle up by pulling the rope, which pitches the rider over the nose. Letting the boat do the work, staying patient, and keeping weight back are the keys to a clean start.
