Surf System

A boat-mounted device that redirects water flow at the transom to shape a clean, surfable wave on either side at the push of a button, eliminating the need to physically lean and re-weight the boat to switch sides.

A surf system is the umbrella term for the built-in wave-shaping technology found on modern inboard wake boats, with the original example being Malibu's Surf Gate, introduced to the market in 2013. Rather than requiring the boat to be heavily weighted and leaned to one side, a surf system uses hydraulically actuated panels, tabs, or plates that intercept and redirect water flow behind the hull to form a powerful, clean wave on the chosen side.

The defining convenience of a surf system is the ability to switch the wave from regular (left) to goofy (right) by pressing a button, without shifting ballast or moving passengers. Major branded versions include Malibu Surf Gate, Nautique Surf System (NSS), MasterCraft Gen 2 Surf System, and Tige TAPS, each engineering separate port and starboard devices to account for engine torque and hull shape.
