Volume

The thickness and buoyancy of a wakesurf board; higher volume floats and carries beginners better, lower volume rides looser.

Volume refers to how thick and buoyant a board is. Surf-style boards carry more volume (a thicker, more voluminous design) for extra buoyancy, which helps with stability, easy planing, and a smooth surf-like feel, making them friendlier for heavier riders and beginners. Skim-style boards are thinner and lighter with less buoyancy, trading float for a quick, loose, responsive feel.

Matching board volume to a rider's weight and skill is a key part of board selection: too little volume sinks into the wave's push, too much makes spins and slides sluggish.
