Wakesurf Lakes Across the US

61 wakesurf lakes across 25 states — open natural water where a ballasted boat throws a clean, surfable wake.

Natural lakes are the classic home of wakesurfing. With enough depth and open fetch, a properly ballasted wake boat builds the steep, clean displacement wave a rider surfs without a rope. Larger lakes also absorb boat traffic and chop better, which means more days with the glassy water that makes for the best wake shape.

Conditions vary lake to lake: surface area, prevailing wind, public-ramp access, and how busy the water gets on summer weekends all change the experience. Early mornings and weekday evenings tend to be glassiest. Many lakes also carry local wake-boat rules — minimum distances from shore, no-wake zones, and depth or setback requirements — so check the state rules before launching.

The lakes below are grouped by state. Each links to a detail page with surface area where known, nearest city, what the spot is known for, and the typical best-season window derived from temperature normals. None of these conditions are invented — every record is source-cited and seasonality is computed from historical climate data.
