Wakesurf Reservoirs Across the US

158 wakesurf reservoirs across 38 states — managed impoundments that often hold the deep, open water wake boats need.

Reservoirs are human-made impoundments held behind a dam, and many are excellent wakesurf water. Because they were engineered for water supply, flood control, or power, they are frequently deep with long open stretches — exactly the depth and fetch a ballasted wake boat needs to build a steep, surfable wave.

The trade-off is that reservoirs are actively managed: water levels rise and fall with drawdown and season, which can move ramps, expose hazards, or close access entirely in a dry year. Many sit on public land with managed boat ramps, and a number carry wake-boat rules around shoreline distance and no-wake zones. Always check current water level and access status before you trailer out.

The reservoirs below are grouped by state. Each links to a detail page with surface area where known, nearest city, what the spot is known for, and the typical best-season window. Conditions and seasons are source-cited and climate-derived — never fabricated — but reservoir levels change fast, so verify before you go.
