Bottom turn

A turn made at the base of the wave to redirect the board back up the face, setting up the next maneuver.

A bottom turn is performed low on the wave, near the trough, to convert downward speed into an arcing turn that sends the rider back up toward the lip. It is the setup move for most face maneuvers: a strong bottom turn loads the board and aims it for a slash, cutback, or air off the lip. The concept comes directly from ocean surfing and applies on the continuous wake face.

Linking a good bottom turn into a top turn or hit is the foundation of flowing, surf-style riding.
