Wave
Lip
The top edge or crest of the wave, the powerful upper section where riders throw slashes, off-the-lip turns, and launch airs.
The lip is the top edge of the wave where its curling energy concentrates. It is the launching point for the most aggressive maneuvers: snaps, off-the-lip turns, slashes, and airs all happen at or off the lip. Riders pump for speed, drive up the face, and hit the lip to redirect or take flight.
In wakesurfing, hitting the lip cleanly is essential for tricks like the lip slide and for any aerial maneuver, since it provides the steep ramp the rider uses to leave the water.
