Thruster
A three-fin setup—two outer fins for speed plus a center fin for stability—that is the most common configuration on surf-style boards, delivering drive and grip for big bottom turns.
The thruster, or three-fin, setup is the most common configuration on surf-style wakesurf boards. It gives the board drive to push forward on the wave plus the grip to make big bottom turns: the outermost fins are for speed while the middle fin adds stability and control. The result is very easy to maneuver with impressive control.
The trade-off is added drag—the extra fin slows the board down somewhat compared to twin or single setups. The thruster is the go-to for riders who want predictable, controlled carving rather than maximum looseness.
